These roads and bypaths had been built during the colonial era, when various prominent British traders, including the founder of Colonial Penang, Captain Sir Francis Light, turned this hill into a cool retreat and escape from the malaria outbreak at lowlands. Throughout colonial times, various roads had been laid, including bypaths that served as quick access between main roads. In recent years, these bypaths have been upgraded and were given a new look, promising visitors a comfortable journey, while enjoying its peace and serenity around the hills.
